Israeli soldiers opened fire on Palestinians going to get food in Gaza (Social media)
World News: The ongoing conflict in Gaza has once again taken a tragic turn, as Israeli soldiers opened fire on Palestinians who were heading to receive food aid in Rafah city. The victims were on their way to the Global Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) center, an American organization that distributes food supplies to civilians affected by the war.
According to local sources, at least 24 people were killed in the firing, and dozens more were injured. Eyewitnesses say the people were unarmed civilians simply trying to access basic necessities like food and water. This incident has sparked fresh outrage and condemnation from humanitarian groups across the globe.
This is not the first time that civilians collecting aid have been targeted. On Friday, the United Nations reported that 798 women, men, and children have been killed in similar incidents in Gaza during the current war. These numbers highlight the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, where access to food and medical help remains extremely limited.
On Saturday, separate Israeli airstrikes killed another 28 people, including four children. The airstrikes were directed at the cities of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.
The Israeli army claimed it carried out attacks on around 250 locations over the last two days. According to the military, these were Hamas-linked sites, and some of them were hiding places for fighters who were planning attacks on Israeli forces.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched attacks on Israeli cities, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages to Gaza. Since then, Israeli retaliation has led to the deaths of more than 57,000 people in Gaza, making it one of the deadliest conflicts in recent times.
Out of the original 251 hostages, 50 are still in Hamas custody, but reports suggest that only 20 are believed to be alive.
Amid continued violence, hopes for peace are being rekindled. U.S. President Donald Trump said that a new ceasefire proposal is being negotiated. He expressed optimism that both sides may soon agree to halt the violence and allow humanitarian aid to reach the affected areas.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, the situation on the ground in Gaza remains dire. Families are struggling to survive, and the constant fear of airstrikes and violence has left the population mentally and physically exhausted.
As global attention intensifies, demands for an immediate ceasefire are growing stronger. The international community is urging both sides to respect humanitarian laws and prioritize the lives of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
